To avenge the painful second place finish at last year's Bulldog Brawl, the Hooch Quizbowl Team came back and took the top two spots. The C, D, and E teams also had amazing finishes at 9th for the C team, and very respectable 12th and 19th place finishes for our first-time high school players. The A-team demolished the competition with an average score of 636.9 -- 103.8. The A-team also broke the power record on this set, scoring 91 powers in 8 games (11.375 powers per game!!!). Congrats to all teams!

The Hooch science bowl team placed in 5th place in the National Science Bowl at Washington, D.C. this weekend. This year, they made playoffs for the first time and beat teams such as Oak Ridge (from TN) and 2016 National Champion Montgomery Blair High School (from MD). They were knocked out of the playoffs by losses to Lexington High School (which went on to be 2017 National Champions) and Mira Loma High School (which finished in 4th place). Great job to the team and we are looking forward to great things in the future!

Congratulations to Kevin Huang, Soham Kulkarni, and Niranjan Ramasekaran for holding their ground and winning 2nd place. They lost to Dorman A from South Carolina in the finals, but their wins against teams such as Northview A and Collins Hill A showed that they are indeed among the top in the state. Additionally, on Tuesday, the A team won the Fulton County Championship. The win is significant in that it secures Chattahoochee a spot on TV to compete on HighQ's 2017-2018 season. For those of you unfamiliar with High Q, it is a long-running local TV quiz game show featuring competition between high school teams. Please congratulate Tej Guttikonda (Captain), Ashwin Ramaswami, Aditi Choudhury, Abhinav Kumar, and Kevin Huang. A great start to February! ![]() It was a big day for the Hooch Quiz Bowl program. On Saturday, 1/28, we split up to go to two different tournaments. We sent 4 teams to compete at GATA Winter at Apalachee High School and our off-shoot Science Bowl sent two teams to compete at Science Bowl Subregionals at Piedmont College. In all, 27 Hooch Quiz Bowlers competed on Saturday. For the second year in a row, the A team went undefeated at Science Bowl Subregionals, winning the finals over Northview. They now move on to Savannah to attempt to qualify for Nationals for the second year in a row. A win in Savannah would win them another all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. Congrats to the Science Bowl A-Team for their 1st place finish: Ashwin Ramaswami (captain), Arvind Ramaswami, Kalen Patton, and Abhinav Kumar. Also congrats to the B-Team: Sahil Sudhir (captain), Ellie Wong, Sarah Chen, and Maanas Purushothapu. They got some great experience, and finished 4th; not bad for their first year. Miles away, at GATA north, all 4 Hooch teams qualified for playoffs after lunch. Due to the loss of personnel to the Science Bowl tournament, the teams at GATA were a little different than normal, creating some interesting match-ups. Our A-Team was composed of Tej Guttikonda (Captain) and Aditi Choudhury from the regular A-Team, and Kevin Huang and Niranjan Ramasekaran from our regular B-Team. Junior Soham Kulkarni and sophomores Harrison Zhu, Andy Luo, and Mihir Paramesh filled in to complete our improvised B-team. The C-Team was made up of Nithilan Vincent (Captain), Srija Sengupta, Charline Truong , Rohan Vuppala, and our new team member Foster Michaelis. Our D-Team (JV) was made up of all freshmen: Roy Li (Captain), Nick Nguyen, Jaehun Seo, Brian Amaro, Suraj Peramanu, and Rajat Sethi. Not only did the B-Team go undefeated in prelims, but they were able to pull a huge upset in the second round of playoffs by beating the Hooch A-Team. What an amazing performance! The B team ended up finishing 2nd and the A team finished 3rd. It was a great experience for all teams.
